Thoughts before the Royal Wedding

According to a study by the specialist technology firm Greenlight, every ten
seconds the royal wedding is mentioned online. If we calculate how many mentions
the wedding gets in a day that would be about 144 notifications. In one day! The word of the Royal wedding is spreading across the globe like wild fire. As the day approaches it is clear that the anticipation is endless. From the comfort's of home to the streets of england millions of people are ready to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton exchange their vows and seal their marriage with an "I do" kiss.

It has been more than 20 years since there has been a royal wedding. This could pose as one of the reasons why there is so much buzz around the celebration. When I first heard of the wedding I was ecstatic. (Mostly because I have never been to a wedding and this would be the closest I would get to one in the near future.) The royal family, as exclusive as they are, will be coming together to witness a momentous day with people from around the world. A day like this does not come ever so often. Of course I cannot be stuck on one theory, there are obviously other, quite possibly better, reasons as to why the wedding is thought of as a huge event.

Could it be the secrecy of Kate Middleton's dress? Maybe. Just like her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, she has kept the dress under lock and key. No one but the bride to be, the designer and perhaps a select few of family and friends. This could possibly be one of the best kept secrets in the world. Mind you I said possibly. Designers, family, friends, and even regular people like my mom are evoked with curiosity with even the slightest thought of the gown.

Kate and William's relationship could be described as a real life fairy tale. They had their first meeting while studying at the University of St. Andrews. They were smitten with one another and started dating. Though the relationship wasn't declared as official because they were on and off. A relationship like their's would definitely draw attention from the public eye, and after their split the world wasn't sure where the couple stood. The engagement probably came as a surprise to many and as the wedding inches closer there is a an air of excitement. Their roller coaster relationship has been in the news for a long time. Now that they are finally getting married I think people consider this an eminent event. This is not only because they are a royal couple but because they have been a couple in media scrutiny. For them to survive the obstacles during the relationship is very admirable.

The wedding is scheduled to happen this Friday April 29 2011. With only a few days away the world could be sure to expect the unexpected. Royal wedding's have always been extravagant occasions with just the right amount of marvel factor. I for one will be braving the hours of three in the morning to watch Kate Middleton walk down the aisle to her husband to be Prince William.

Who Are You?

Anonymity can provide a shield for those who want to be unknown. Being anonymous proves to have benefits but it also has it's downfalls as there is a lack in credibility.

A person might choose to remain anonymous for the purpose of revealing a story without jeopardizing their name. I believe that this is a plausible reason for not using your name. For example, say you wrote something that could potentially bring down a company. Although the credibility is easily taken away due to the anonymous person attached to it, there is still that curiousity if the said story was true.

Being anonymous could be seen as useful, it could also be seen as cowardly. Why do people choose to hide their faces? One might assume that it is because of they are afraid of the reaction that might ensue. You never know how someone will feel after reading a comment or a story. If you put your name with what you have written you could be subjected to praise or to criticism.

Some people that I have observed do not put their name to their work for the purpose of protecting themselves. A comment or a story can evoke different emotions. If a story is maligning, of course there might be people in the world who will try to, as bad as this sounds, get you back.

So when is being anonymous okay?
Personally, I think that you shouldn't be anonymous at all. I feel that if you are going to publish something you should publish it with your name. If you are going to hide behind anonymity obviously what you are about to say is wrong. The only time I will stand for being anonymous is when you want to protect your identity from revealing something incriminating.

I guess that is where anonymity can get carried away. When it is not used as a form of protection but as a form of covering your tracks from cowardly acts. There is nothing wrong with anonymity, to be honest I become anonymous sometimes, as long as you are using for purposes of good rather than bad.
